The Library Talks: Second Thoughts
A collective exploration on Eastern Europeaness

The Library Talks present…
Second Thoughts: A collective exploration on Easter Europeanness

What does it mean to be Eastern European (in the Netherlands)?

What is our position in knowledge and art production?

How can we research our own (art) histories, while they are not included in the Academy’s discourse?

How do we live together and define ourselves without sticking to outdated geopolitical terms?

This is a social setting, an informal kitchen conversation, a reading club, support group, a political cafe, an art collective. We are here to be lost and found, to learn from and with each other. We want to stand out and our voices to be heard, our art history and artists to be seen and included, to be here not to prove anything but because it is important. We want to learn about our hidden histories, similarities and differences, to make unrepresented identities visible and expose the complexity of understanding the ‘Second World’.

Disarming Design from Palestine
IN THE AIR: Ephemeral publishing, materiality, Alone together, who is listening?

PING and Disarming Design join to host sessions on experimental publishing and post-digital networks. This workshop explores methods and implications of online/offline publishing focusing on available resources. The aim is to present publishing as an inquiry and a form of participation in the current technological and socio-political context.

Together we will challenge the ways of making public and creating publics exchanging tools and strategies while engaging with experimental forms of circulation and decentralized networks.

Guests: PUB.sandberg.nl, Radio Alhara and Rietveld Radio with Rietveld Journal

*SELECTED 2020 – video portraits

Live every day from 20 until 29 November on social media

For ten days, the academy’s online channels will be devoted to video portraits made of all participating artists. Every video portrait is created together with the artists to give insight in their way of thinking and working and gives the viewer the chance to dive deeper into the work.

Participants have all been nominated by an independent jury during the Graduation Show for the annual GRA Awards in three categories: Autonomous Arts, Applied Arts and Thesis. This year, the participating artists are: Irene Ha, Clémence Lollia Hilaire, Matilda Kenttä, Simon Marsiglia, Mayis Rukel, Alexis Stephenson, Nomin Zezegmaa and Eric van Zuilen. SELECTED offers these Rietveld graduates the opportunity to present and share their graduation works with a wider audience.

Later this year, the nominees of the Autonomous Arts and Applied Arts categories bring their work to a new audience in a different context; in the Eight Cubic Meters public gallery in the city centre of Amsterdam or in an episode of RietveldTV on AT5.

Radio Rietveld is a student run platform that proliferates audio based content from the GRA community and friends.

Beyond broadcasting, the Radio serves as a transdisciplinary meeting place through physical and digital happenings.

Our ever growing archive of sound and images led us to pursue the programming of this web.

Designed by Samuel Pin (Graphic Design Class of 2020) in close collaboration and coding support of Quentin Creuzet.

Special thanks to The Rietveld and Sandberg Student Council, Public Rietveld, Jan Kees Van Kampen, Miquel Hervas Gomez, Ott Metusala, Gersande Schellinx, Eva Mahhov, DinDon, Chloe Delchini and Juliette Lepineau.
